Skyrhúsið HI Hostel

The newest member of the HI Iceland family, Skyrhúsið is located in Hali Sudursveit, 10 minutes from Jökulsárlón glacier and the Diamond Beach. A perfect base for exploring South and East Iceland, guests will enjoy the cozy rooms in this modern renovated farmhouse, built as an addition to the old home of the famous icelandic writer Þórbergur Þórðarson. The modern kitchen makes for a great place to cook dinner, or hop over the road over to Þórbergssetur for good food & drinks and or a cultural experience at the museum, which honors the writer and his lifespan.

• A ten minute drive from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where you can see icebergs break away from the glacier and float to the sea.
• Skaftafell nature reserve is in the area, with its diverse landscape and many hiking options, and lets not forget the famous Svartifoss waterfall.
• Vatnajökull glacier is the largest in Europe, open for hikes during summer or exploring ice caves in winter.
