Sample itineraries
In recent years HI Iceland hostel guests have increasingly preferred to travel in Iceland using their own cars or rental cars. HI Iceland offers special prices on packages consisting of a rental car and overnight vouchers at hostels, (see: Special offer on rental cars). For your convenience we have prepared a number of roadmaps and route descriptions (14 in total) in different parts of Iceland. The routes may vary from a one day trip up to fourteen days roundtrip around the country. Check it out. Driving in Iceland is somewhat different from driving in other countries. Roads are often worse, some of them are only open part of the year and weather conditions can change very quickly. We therefore encourage everyone considering travel in Iceland on their own to acquaint themselves thoroughly with the chapter “Driving in Iceland”
